Candidate: "I am at the stage of my job search where I have to talk to recruiters."
Me: "You mean you GET TO talk to recruiters?!" 😂
Kidding. Of course.
I hated to talk to recruiters too.
UNTIL I understood that they
🔑 hold keys to doors
🔑 are there to help (help them help you)
🔑 have vast knowledge of jobs and companies and the market... and then I of course became one so you don't have to!
Here's WHY I think recruiters and the whole interview process is the BEST networking opportunity if you go into it with that mindset.
Interviews aren't just about landing jobs—they're golden networking opportunities.
When else will you get the chance to have a pre-scheduled 30 minute meeting with executives or your peers at a company you are actually interested in working at?!
1️⃣ Direct Access: Connect directly with executives— you may get 2-5 minutes at a networking event. Compare THAT to 30!
2️⃣ Quality Time: Enjoy substantial dialogue, unlike brief encounters elsewhere.
3️⃣ Showcase Expertise: Tell your story (skills and experience) effectively.
4️⃣ Mutual Learning: Exchange industry perspectives and insights.
5️⃣ Relationship Building: When you don't get the job, you foster valuable connections and perhaps new opportunities for the future.
Embracing interviews as a chance to network, learn, and grow professionally will make them infinitely more fun AND lucrative. 🚀
