How embrace going to large events (especially as an introvert:)
Go to events that have a THEME / TOPIC.
The more SPECIFIC the theme is and the more INTERESTED you are in the topic, the more fun you will have engaging with others in attendance, because you have at least this one common interest you will then build on.
Therefore, I ONLY recommend going to "work" events (from networking to conferences to awards to speaking engagements) if you are truly passionate about your work. Industry. Problems you are solving. Etc.
People who "hate going to work events" tend to hate their work. It's much more fun to talk to people who are passionate about what they do.
Sure, some events are better and others are worse, but you mitigate 99% of "bad event" risks by following the people who talk about things you are passionate about and 100% control your own questions and energy.
People create events.
You have to either be interested in the topic or the host.
Preferably both.
Show up in spaces you genuinely want to co-create.
